The fabulous rarasaur is running a series of Prompts for the Promptless, and I am intrigued by this weeks – Wu Wei
Wu wei, or non-doing, is a Taoist practice involving letting one’s action follow the simple and spontaneous course of nature rather than interfering with the harmonious working of universal law by imposing arbitrary and artificial forms. In other words, it is the action of non-action
To me the otter symbolises wu-wei, in that they play endlessly, without structure or direction. To be otter means to play and romp, chase and wriggle, and do a great deal of nothing at high speed and energy. And a great ottery smile

Ha! I love his grin! He’s so very at peace with his fun and games, it’s beautiful! I think the otter is a brilliant example of wu wei. Thanks for participating in Prompts for the Promptless!
Thanks, I want to be reincarnated as an otter, because that is where the fun is at! Thanks for the Prompt idea, I have never met the term wu-wei before but it gave me an opportunity to share otters with the world, and thats never a bad thing
Do the otters live near you or is this at a zoo or aquarium? He looks like he’s in his own backyard!
They live in a Wildlife Reserve in our city, there are 4 otters in a large enclosure with a big pond but the day I was there only this handsome fellow was out, playing with pebbles under the water with his front paws. And smiling so nicely for my camera
‘And a great ottery smile’
gorgeous!
