Goldfinch

Goldfinch

Have seen these brightly coloured birds a bit in the garden lately.  Watching them flitter about in the weeds in one side of my garden, I realised they were feeding off the seeds growing in dandelions.  I have also seen one eating the seeds in a scottish thistle growing wild in town as well.

Its nice to know that letting a bit of my garden get overgrown and weedy actually has a benefit for a small creature who relies on that to happen as a food source.  Luckily quite a bit of my garden has those plants in them, so I might just allow a patch to stay there so they have somewhere to stop and get a snack.

Circle of life!
