One Photo Focus – Jan 2016

Its time again for my favourite photo challenge – One Photo Focus – where a group of us edit the same image with our individual visions.  You can see details and all the images here.

Thanks to Stacy Fischer from Visual Venturing for hosting the challenge and Laura Macky for this months image.

Post Processing:

As I am still recovering from my surgery I kept it simple, edited the image in LR and then processed to a BW as I wanted to bring out the texture in the peeling paint on the boat.

Then I took it into Nik Silver Efex until I found a preset I liked and added a slight blue tint and a vignette to bring focus onto the boat.

This is what I ended up with:

Out of curiosity I then took the image into Topaz Texture FX and had a play with adding a couple of different textures just to add some interest and depth to the sky which was looking a bit empty.   It slightly darkened the image and changed its colour tone a bit but I liked the final result.

Thanks Laura for a fun image with lots of interesting texture to work with, I hope you like my efforts.

Great image to start with but I like the effect of the textures you added and the darker tone gives it a moodier (is there such a word?) feel much in keeping with the peeling paint of the boat.

When selecting the plans which are proper for your degree of expertise, ensure they give you a transparent and
complete list of all the materials you will need to finish the job.

  6. Hi, Stacey and Happy New Year! Yes, I remain unbelievably behind in my blogging and commenting, especially where 1PF is concerned 🙁. But it’s my week’s goal to finally visit everyone’s post from January. But first, glad to hear you are doing well!

I really like that you went beyond Silver Efex and applied Topaz. While it may have made the image darker, I like your reasoning for applying it and it does complement the peeling paint of the boat. Nicely done!

Thanks so much for participating. I’m looking forward to working on your image for February 🙂 (PS I sent you an email and a follow-up invitation to Dropbox so you could upload your image files – let me know if you didn’t get it.)

Love to hear your thoughts on my post!
