Difference Between Aesthetic and Style

Over on DPS I recently had this article published where I discuss the difference between Aesthetic and Style.

Lots of photographers get to the stage where they wonder if they have a style or if they are going to develop one.

My article looks at style in a deeper way, differentiating how you shoot your images and the way they look, and each has an impact on the final outcome.

A different way of thinking about your own style perhaps?

Thank you for sharing your article. As I ponder, I wonder…as my understanding and awareness of the objective elements of photography increased then was/is there also an opening of creative exploration that was also inspired by photographers’ creative work that I resonated with? So over time, this process became a cycle that builds upon itself and in leads me to define and see my own style?

Sorry…edit. Remove ‘in’ …upon itself and in leads me… sometimes it is a challenge to get my head around something and type in a coherent manner.

    • Thats an interesting way to think about it. I agree that you have to master the basics before you can begin to further explore the creative aspects.

It hadnt occured to me that your appreciation for the work of others might also evolve as your personal level of understanding and skill does as well. Thanks for the insight!
